1. Trinity College & The Book of Kells
Starting off strong, no trip to Dublin is complete without visiting Trinity College, Ireland’s most prestigious university. Founded in 1592,  this experience attracts more than two million visitors every year. It’s home to a set of Georgian and Victorian buildings, cobbled squares and wildflower meadows which all make for an elegant and pleasant place to wander around. Its biggest draw for visitors is the barrel-vaulted Long Room in the Old Library and the Book of Kells; a Gospel manuscript that dates back to the 9th century. With a current breathtaking immersive experience as the some of the books are unavailable due to preservation process. Booking in advance is ideal, entry prices vary.
2. Jeanie Johnston Famine Ship
Next up, step aboard the Jeanie Johnston and uncover a tragic yet pivotal chapter in Irish history. This moving 50-minute guided tour explores the Great Famine (1845-1852), which claimed over a million lives. Exploring the ship, where you’ll learn about the vessel’s vital role in transporting Irish emigrants to North America and the conditions those travelling faced. With knowledgeable guides and deeply emotional storytelling, this tour is a must-do for history lovers. Open year-round, it offers a powerful glimpse into Ireland’s past – we would highly recommend!
3. Guinness Storehouse
No visit to Dublin would be complete without experiencing the Guinness Storehouse – Explore the story of Guinness. Visitors learn exactly what goes into a pint of the black stuff in this 7-storey brewery. Ending with a complimentary pint in the top floor “Gravity Bar”, whilst enjoying 360-degree views across Dublin. A gift shop and cafes are on-site. Booking is essential. Several tour options are available, For an extra treat include add-ons such as learning how to pour the perfect pint in the “Guinness Academy Experience” and enjoying an additional pint of Guinness with a picture of your face on top! Did you really go to Dublin without doing the Guinness tour?
4. Kilmainham Gaol
Delve deeper into Dublin’s dark past at the famous Kilmainham Gaol. Visitors will discover the stories of people held here as ordinary criminals alongside those who fought for Irish independence. We really enjoyed our visit to Kilmainham and like many others, were really lacking in knowledge of Irish history. A trip here will certainly provide a great overview of Ireland’s major historical events. You’ll need to book weeks in advance and the average tour will take around 90 minutes.
5. Teeling Whiskey Distillery
Last but certainly not least, you can’t miss the Teeling Whiskey Distillery. Production only began in 2015, It will be several years before any of the distillate can be called whiskey (meaning their own whiskey is still aging). But visitors can tour the fully operational facility  (not every distillery in the city is a working one), and taste and buy whiskies from the family’s other distillery which is located on the Cooley Peninsula. Choose from different tour packages, we would recommend booking in advance and don’t forget to stop by the Phoenix Café—the only spot where dogs are welcome!Â
